Buzz maintained a straight face –which he could do when he was trying. “But that would drive me crazy,” he said innocently. It was brief gleam in his eyes that gave him away.
“If I do, I’ll be a lot older and wiser, right?” Buzz shrugged.
Not fazed a bit, Buzz exhaled in a puff of air and rolled his eyes to the side. “Thank you.” Under his breath: “Sheesh.”
He glanced over his shoulder at the doors, then back at Zurg. “Well, whether you celebrate it or not, merry Christmas. And happy New Year, too, if I don’t see you before then.” That could be a blessing. He glanced aside at Hellboy. “Same for you, Red, I guess – but you owe me big now.”
He gave Zurg a nod, then Hellboy, and turned to leave.

"You crazy? Imagine my life after your passing!"
It was true. When Lightyear was done with his short time, Zurg would be left to remain his evil, crotchety self and have absolutely no one to obsess on--no one to focus on and pin all his misfortunes and dastardly schemes upon!
Oh the tragedy!
"You are quite welcome, Lightyear." And Zurg was keen to stress this, don't you worry. He wanted to savour this moment and with a hidden camera capturing every moment, he was sure to play it back again, and again, and again for his evil, cruel enjoyment~!
"And don't worry about the Christmas..." The Evil Emperor gestured with a dismissive hand. "I don't celebrate, but have a happy solar cycle~! I'm sure you're going to especially like what I have planned for the next fiscal quarter~!"
And to think he said that with the most innocent giggle possible.

Buzz had to cough, or he was sure he was going to laugh, and maybe even a bit hysterically. After a few seconds, he finally managed, “Well, maybe there’ll be a Junior for you to mess with.”
Buzz glanced over his shoulder. “Well then, I’ll be waiting for it.” And with that, he left the room.

Hellboy didn't relax until the rangers had finally left the room and were well on their way. But even though he finally shifted out of his defensive stance, he still felt tense; his muscles coiling beneath his skin and his teeth grinding together. He cast his golden eyes to the floor. Guilt churned in his gut. He felt appropriately ashamed of himself when Lightyear shot him that look and said that the demon owed him. It had not been an accusatory look, nor a warning look. It had been the gaze of a man drained of any excess emotion.
And Hellboy knew that he was to blame.
Though Zurg had ordered him to crash the wedding, it had been his actions that led to this confrontation--bringing down the church and getting the bride so grievously wounded. He hadn't wanted anyone to get hurt. It only made sense to get out of a crashing building as fast as you could, right? But apparently she hadn't been fast enough, and her condition was what led Lightyear here on his mission for vengeance in the first place.
He did not mind fighting--that was something he was good at--and when someone picked a fight with you they ought to know what they'd be getting into. But he did mind innocents dying because of him.
He wasn't so sure if he could be as heartless as he thought he could be anymore.
He swallowed, failing to eradicate the lump in his throat. "Man, do I need a drink," he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. He wondered if he could find any beer here. It would help him clear his head and think about things with a more detached state of mind.
But already, he was beginning to think more clearly. Zurg and Lightyear's exchange had been anything but playful banter. There had been something else underneath, something darker, fouler, more sinister even.
Hellboy turned to Zurg and raised a quizzical brow. "What the heck was that all about? With Lightyear I mean."

Well, so much for a good, decent, Good versus Evil fight....
The Evil Emperor let out a grunt and folded his arms slowly, his eyes potentially smoldering where Lightyear had exited if he had any amount of rage, but as it turned out...Zurg couldn't get himself worked up like he normally could. He couldn't trick himself into spiraling into an anger fest and, well, he couldn't trick himself into doing anything at the moment, really.
Casting his crimson eyes upwards, the Evil Emperor soaked up the adopted sister of his arch foe and studied her features.
He didn't feel shame, he didn't feel guilt, and he didn't feel a drop of pity--all those emotions he had shed long ago. On the path he tread, they would only hinder his progress and leave him weak and naive.
Regardless, however, he realized that Lightyear, of all people in the vast, wide Cosmos, wasn't as one-dimensional as he thought he was. For once, Lightyear actually cared more about something other than his wretched core values or blasted Space Ranger mission manual. Ozma was a good close second, but that was for another time.
It showed that the man wasn't quite as heartless or cold, just like his f----
"What the heck was that all about? With Lightyear I mean."
Zurg snapped out of his thinking as soon as he heard his agent's voice and he gazed down upon the red demon, his yellow pupils contracting a bit as he focused.
"A test." The Evil Emperor said simply, still standing erect and steadfast. "A test is all that progressed here." He reaffirmed again, this time with more confidence in his voice.
"And the simple fact that I would not kill him; not here, not now, not under these unfortunate circumstances."
There was still business left to be done...Much, much more business left to be done...
