Just beyond the orbit of Planet Z; Friday: December 26th, 301042 was cloaked. Buzz just hoped that this time, the cloaker actually worked. Without turning in his seat, he ordered, “XR, transponder sweep.” “Yes, sir. Running.” “Good.” Buzz unbuckled and stood. “I’ll be back in a minute.” Leaving the bridge, he went down to the lower level to find Cora. When he found her room, he leaned in through the open doorway. “Knock-knock… can I come in?” he asked softly. ((EEZ, need to know where the cubes are if the transponder finds them - if it can't for some reason or other, let me know! ))

Cora was laying on her back with her eyes closed when Buzz came him.
"I don't see why not," Cora lifted herself into a sitting position. "Have we arrived yet?"

((Sorry, guys – real life got really bad, and the Liz thread was the only one I could really focus on. )) “Yes.” Buzz entered the little room. “I, um, want to apologize for snapping at you earlier. I guess I’m running on a short temper lately.” He smiled ruefully at her. *** Back on the bridge, XR frowned as he checked something on his console. “What the –” he muttered. “That can’t be right…” “What can’t be right?” Ricki asked, eyebrow raised. XR shook his head. “I’m not picking up anything from Planet Z – I mean, not on a holocube frequency.” “Zurg could be cloaking it,” Ricki pointed out. “Can you run a counter to –” “Already tried that, kid,” XR replied testily. “They’re not there.” “What do you mean, they’re not there?” Erin frowned. “Just what I said! If there were any holocubes down there, we would’ve picked something up by now.” “Can I take a look?” Ricki offered. XR rolled his eyes. “Be my guest.”

No DUH he's masking them! Zurg's not an idiot, ya know. Numerous ideas were running through Warp's mind as he stared at a schematic of Z Tower, the most likely hiding place for the cubes.
He knew this planet, and Zurg, better than anyone on the ship. He also knew most of the hiding place on the planet and within the tower, so there was only one glitch. Zurg knew everything better.
"What ever made you think that the cubes aren't here, XR?"
What are the places that only HE has access to?
"I mean, really, this is Planet Z. Alright? You have no idea how easy it is to hide something on this planet and have no one be the wiser. Especially if you control the entire planet."
...his private chamber...uuuuh...
He spun around in his chair as he said, "Believe me, I know."

XR’s fingers flew across his pop-out keyboard. “I’m sure you do,” he returned. “But I’m not even picking up any interference – and I should be.”

"Nothing we have will find those cubes...except maybe Lightyear's dumb luck." Warp turned back to his console.

((Sorry about that hon :Hugs: I was just wondering what was going on.))
Cora looked down at her clasped hands and sighed. "I think I deserved it. I've been nothing but trouble since arriving on this ship that I...." She growled something under her breath, looking away from Buzz.
"It's just, I've been really worked up even before I got assigned this mission. It basically deals with the situation my parents are in."
She looked straight at him. "Meaning you and Mira in the future. That is."
*Back on the bridge.*
"You sure, XR?" Mira asked. "Maybe Warp's right. Zurg could have cloaked them and we could be none the wiser."
"Just to let your guys know," Mira cut in. "But I'm not very thrilled in meeting up with Zurg and Hellboy again. So XR, if you can't pick up a signal, be sure of it now."
Mira had that tone of authority about her.

((It’s okay! *hugs back* I would’ve been wondering, too.))
Buzz didn’t frown, didn’t question her – though the fact that she’d be worried about her parents back in the future slightly alarmed him. He might not have exactly been father material just yet, but over the past couple of years, he’d at least learned how to be supportive.
He sat beside Cora and drew her to him in a gentle hug. After a few moments, he teased quietly, “Cora, if you weren’t ‘trouble,’ you wouldn’t be our daughter.” He lightly stroked her red hair. “What’s happening to me and Mira in the future? Or should you not say because it could ruin the time-space thing?”
***
XR’s frown deepened, though he didn’t look up from his console. “The prospect doesn’t thrill me, either. I’m working on it.”
Erin looked over at her partner. “Rick?”
Sitting on her haunches at XR’s station, Ricki turned back to Erin and shook her head. “XR’s right. You need special scramblers to cloak holocubes, and we’re just not picking up any kind of interference at all.” She stood. “I think it’s a safe bet that the cubes aren’t there.”
“But where else could they be?” Booster frowned. “I mean, if they’re not here on Planet Z, they could be anywhere in the galaxy!”
Erin slumped down in her chair and stared at the ceiling. “Terrific. Buzz is not gonna be happy.”

Cora sighed, letting him stroke her hair. He never did this sort of thing when she was growing up, only her mother. But she faintly remembered a time where he'd pick her up and swing her around in the air...
She shook her head. Now wasn't the time to remember those sort of things.
"I think I should tell you. I mean, it might mess things up, but for the better. I just..."
She sighed again, annoyed with herself. Where was her stronger side? The side that wasn't so darn emotional? Well wherever it was, it sure isn't here now.
"You might not like the outcome. But before I came to this time period, you, mom, and I were on 42. XR and Booster were on the bridge and you were sending me off to find the cubes. But something was going on. The ship was being attacked. Sirens were going off, the whole place was berserk. There was smoke everywhere.
"But before I left I asked you a very important question that you didn't know how to answer. Neither did mom. I asked. "When I come back, will you still be here? Will you still..."
She was gone for a moment, her eyes hazy as she looked at nothing particular. She just stared off in her own little world, probably remembering those last few minutes she had with her parents. "Will you still be alive." She finished, finally gathering up the courage to tell him.
"I know this sounds unbelievable, but when I go back to the future, I'm scared to know the truth. Of whether you or mom, or the team is still alive. And seeing you here, right now, perfectly fine, it tears me up inside because I know your future. And I don't want to know!"
***
Then if Zurg doesn't have the cubes, then who does? Mira thought, tapping the counsel lightly. This just didn't make sense. No sense at all. If Zurg, the big bad guy with a hunger for power, doesn't have these futuristic weapons then who in the galaxy does?
"Someone needs to tell Buzz." Mira put it simply. She looked back behind her after a moment when no one said anything.

"I'll go." Warp volunteered, as he stood and headed down to the lower level.
***
As he stepped through the last airlock, Warp called, "Buzz? Cora?" He knew they were still down here, but where exactly was something he wasn't sure about, and it seemed that just walking on either of them wouldn't go over particularly well.

Buzz closed his eyes and just held onto her for a long minute. If his future self – his fifties-something future self – couldn’t answer Cora… that meant that his survival seriously was in question. His, Mira’s, the whole team’s. “Cora, I… I don’t know what to say,” he said quietly. “Except that… I can’t believe that your mom and I would be taken away from you like that.” For someone so young to be so burdened like that… it tore him up inside.
Then he heard Warp call. He sighed and leaned back from Cora to call, “Hold on!” He looked down at his daughter – craters, his daughter! – and asked softly, “Think you’ll be okay?”

Hold on to what, exactly?
"Holding on." He leaned against one of 42's bulkheads as he waited paitently for his partner.

Cora just leaned against him, taking his words in. She didn't want him to leave--to go off and battle Zurg--but she couldn't stay like this forever.
"I will be." She stated, sitting up again. "But I want to know something before you leave."
"Before you and mom found out I was your daughter, did you---do you, love her? I mean before all this happened, were you willing to marry her because you loved her rather than have a future with me in it?"

Buzz smoothed Cora’s hair back from her forehead and said, “Kiddo, don’t you ever doubt for one microsecond that I didn’t love your mother enough to marry her before you popped up. I was already trying to figure out how to propose – you just kinda pushed things along is all.” He smiled at her, holding her back at arm’s length. “I love your mother, heart and soul. I always have. It just took some time to figure it out.
“Now I’d better go see what Warp wants, okay?”
