Oh my gosh, YES. That was so STUPID. In fact... 42 may just possibly have been THE WORST writing in the entire show. See- in the beginning of the episode they have XR slobbering over these space pirates, and Mira telling him to grow up- so when all that stuff happens with 42, it's still OOC but you think maybe it has a point to it, maybe the writers are trying to show that XR can act more mature- AND THEN AT THE EPISODE HE'S MAKING PASSES AT RANDOM BABES AGAIN! W-T-F.

Exactly. Watching the end of that show was painful. All that stuff that could have been character development just erased itself so that everything would go back to how it was.
What's wrong with character development in a cartoon? Maybe this is why the show was cancelled...
I'm not sure that's why it was cancelled- lots of cartoons do the same thing. And that bugs me. I can't tell if it's lazy writing or if everyone thinks kids can't understand/aren't interested in character development. And that's stupid. Even just small bits of development here and there can make a show much deeper. Look at all the little glimpses of XR's more complex inner personality: they're just little things, and see how much discussion they've generated here!
"It's made of turtles! Turtles that you love!" Dr. Loboto from Psychonauts
well, little kids aren't generally big on character development... just give them some blowy uppy and they're all over it... Little kids don't care about romance and bad writing, as long as there's funny stuff and something to hold their attention and BLOSC is ultimately, as much as I'd regret, a kid's show... which means it targets not the older audience, but to the little kids... most probably it got cancelled because kids didn't find so much interest in it anymore... and I say yes to all the horrible writing in that episode, they ruined a reasonably good character and turned her into a Mary Sue, a fling or something... and they made XR unreasonably shallow in that ep... yes he hits on all girls, but that ep was just pushing it too far... especially the ending... >( But that doesn't mean I hate 42 herself, any more than I hate XR himself in that ep... just that particular ep's writing erks me so...
Here's my take on it, do with it as you will, but here it goes. Keep in mind that I haven't seen this episode for a few months, so I may get details wrong.
I think that saying that XR wouldn't fall in love with her is assuming a little too much. Who people fall in love with is unpredictable, the type of person they are be dam--darned. And even if she DID insult him, I believe it was because, she was "Whoa, where am I, how did I get here, who the heck is this? Why can't I control my own body? What's going on?!" and she was short with him. This happens when I have too much input at once, so I think it's permissable to have happened to 42. We all know that he goes for chicks and such, but as far as we all know, we don't know what he goes for in terms of intelligence and personality. It's fairly open in that regard.
That being said, after she had time to get used to being concious, she DID apologize to him about snapping at him. I really wouldn't have forgiven her if she hadn't. And I think that because of that, XR was willing to give her a second chance.
Now the breakup. Her behavior does raise the question "why couldn't they continue to be together", here's my take on it. I think that she feared that they would grow apart. You know how horrible it is when a friendship grows apart, and you stop talking to your friend over time, and if you had good times with them, it makes it painful. So I think when she accepted the job, as an afterthought, she realized that she wasn't going to be able to see XR as often as she could've, so rather than having their relationship die slowly, I think she was just trying to save both of them alot of pain.
Well, if I think of anything else, I'll post it, but this is my opinion.

Oh, geez, why did I make this thread, I was an idiot then.
Now I think he could very well keep pursuing her, because XR is just really, really needy, but I also still think she's kind of short-tempered and would lose patience with him and blow up eventually. Maybe not before long, either. In my retarded crossover series she actually transferred out of the galaxy because she was sick of XR following her around. (I was thinking of having her come back and everything hits the fan, but in kind of a non-canon installment, as it would mostly be OC love triangle crap this is dissolving into narcissism end now)
I still think she's selfish and dislikable, as well. Not the devil or anything (shut up, younger!n00b!me) just kind of a petty woman who- I think- can't stand to not get her own way. I really doubt she was afraid of 'growing apart' or anything like that. I think she just saw something better and took it.
AND I also think he only liked her because someone showed him a little attention for once.

Well, here's my take. Like Kila said, XR is needy. He really does long for a strong relationship with someone, and is desperate for attention - which accounts for most of the things he does in the show (showing off, flirting, making wise cracks - it's a part of who he is)
Now here comes 42. She snaps at him at first. I guess, like loony said, it's the shock of coming into being for the first time - but still, she could've been a little nicer. But then, she reveals that she needs someone to talk to. XR immediately responds to this. This is probably the first time anyone admitted to XR that they need him, and he likes this.
He's really desperate for attention, and he doesn't get it anywhere else.
The only thing that really vexes me is the end. Grrr. I like to think that maybe he wanted to pretend to his teammates that he really was okay, and that the thing with 42 didn't really bother him - so he goes and chases after another. Maybe it was all just a ploy, and he really just went somewhere else to sulk. But of course, I'm just making a bad guess...

Maybe he just has the attention span of a housefly, and came back a few minutes later going 'OH WAIT... I WAS REALLY DEPRESSED TWO SECONDS AGO. '
I don't know. I have a hard time making that make sense.
I do agree with that, the ending SUCKED. What did he hit an automatic reboot switch, or what? Is there some sort of switch in him that says "ACTIVATE INCASE OF HORRIBLE WRITING" or something? Gawd...
