Oh, I swear... I had NO idea what I was starting when I brought this up! XDDDDDDD Anyway... I KNEW that was coming. I knew THAT was coming, too! XDDDDDDDD Okay, let me see if I can pull my fogged brain together to say this right...

Now, in real life, I agree: Yes, it probably was just a joking tribute to Star Wars, and Zurg was just trying to save his skin... and I hate that scene in Toy Story 2 'cause it's a mockery of one of the most tragic scenes of the Skywalker story...
But let me bring up 2 concepts that could make this idea work:
1. Saron and I have had a fair amount of discussion about Zurg's personality, and how his mind works. He seems to be the kind of person that would try to block out sad memories and use immaturity as a cover for what he's really feeling. He could have had a love in the past and it turned out wrong... and you'd never know it, because he hides it so well.
2. I know that there are fics out there that have been written to the contrary, but I don't think Zurg could really hurt his own child. If Buzz was his son and Zurg knew it, Buzz would've been taken to Planet Z long ago as a child and turned into Agent Z. My point? If Zurg really is Buzz's father... Zurg doesn't know. It's not improbable. Zurg might not have known Buzz's mother's real surname (known her by an alias instead), OR Buzz could have been adopted, OR his surname could have been changed. There are ways to work this out.
Now for the "how do you figure Zurg is Buzz's father?" Next post (keeping these short and separate so that you don't get lost the discussion and I drive my points home). ;D

==THE EVIDENCE==
Okay, if you're going to say that 2 characters that, as far as you know, are unrelated ARE related, the first thing you base that off of is similarity, right? I will say right now that a scant 2 months ago, I would've said that this was crazy and impossible, that there was no way Zurg could ever be Buzz's father. But the more I tried to disprove it, the more I found that was leaning toward the contrary. So I'm going to assert this:
It might not be real, but it CAN BE CANON.
Give you some "for instance"? I'd love to! 1. BASIC SIMILARITIES(a) STUBBORN This one goes without saying, right? They're both stubborn - whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. (b) LAME Let's face it: they both really have lame moments. XD (c) OBSESSION They were both ready to kill themselves in the beginning of "Lost in Time" just to get each other! But I'm not saying that they're obsessed with each other (even though they ARE). They're also obsessed with their... (d) CAREERS Well, they are! That is just UNDENIABLE. (e) PASSION What each man believes in, he believes with all his heart. Zurg believes in his evil, Buzz in his good. (f) DRAMA Again, this goes without saying, right? XD (g) ARROGANCE & COCKINESS Do I really have to say it? (h) DEPTH Both seem to be hiding their deeper thoughts and emotions under shallow fronts. Neither is the type to really open up... unless the right person came along?......I came up with another similarity, which, unfortunately, I lost almost as soon as I had it... If I come up with anything else, you'll be the first to know. At any rate... This alone is enough to base some sort of blood-relation on.[/color] 2. CHEMISTRYOkay, there is something going on between these two, whether they realize it or not. And don't anyone DARE be a pervert and suggest... umm, never mind. Not goin' ta say it. I mean have you ever noticed how often they're on the same wavelength? (a) "Lost in Time"Buzz: I guess we'll just have to see, won't we? Zurg: I guess we will. Buzz: Will not. Zurg: Will too! Buzz: 'Kay then. Zurg: Fine. (b) "Root of Evil"Mira: Okay, you know what? As far as evil schemes go, this one is, well, it's just... Buzz: Fiendishly clever. Mira: Whatever. Mira doesn't think so, but Buzz DOES. And there are more instances, but I don't have time right now. You could probably find some yourself. It's there if you look for it. I keep getting the nagging feeling that I'm missing something, but I can't figure out what! If I do, I'll get back to you ASAP. For now, though, this is enough. BASED ON THIS, A FATHER/SON RELATIONSHIP IS ENTIRELY CANONICAL. Thank you, and have a good evening! ;D

.................................I agree with about 99% of all of that. And I can't remeber the other one percent but anyway.....that was very good. I wish I had that type of perception.

Absolutely, positively, not-in-a-grub-shooting way, are those two knocker-heads related by father-son; or by any relations. XD
Sure, they act the same, have the same quirks and mental thoughts, but that's because the writers WANT that relation. It's funnier that way!
If I had to date Mr. Buzz Bundy Lightyear, I'd say he was in his late thirties early forties, and as for the Mr. Evil Emperor, I'd date him....oh say....physically he's got to be way older--which depends on everyone's fanfic viewpoint--but mentally...does he seem really capable of getting into a srs relationship? Just look how he reacted with the Cloned Brats, Vicki Vortex, etc.
The man has the responsibility level of a cratermunk.
Besides, all that heir business regarding royalty is just for show. Who wants to share the universe with their kid, only to have the blasted spawn throw you down a reactor chute leading to some blowy-uppy core.
I say it's not plausible, and the TS2 tidbit from Pixar was just to make us older farts laugh at another Star Wars parody.
Oh, and speaking of that, Zurg HIMSELF denied the claim in Stranger Invasion. Sure, you could argue that he might not know, but seeing Zurg for all this worth, he strikes me as an individual who will not wish to devote his time to a significant other.
Ah, how we all think alike~!

Mm, yeah, now I wanna give my own two cents on the matter.
I'll disagree with y'all on your common point: "He could have had a love in the past and it turned out wrong... and you'd never know it, because he hides it so well." Zurg's definitely an ace at keeping secrets, but I don't think Zurg's ever been in love. Perhaps he's crushed on someone, like Vicki Vortex, been infatuated even to the point he acts like your typical fangirl (though I highly doubt even Zurg would fangirl--no wait, he fangirls over HYPER DEATH RAYS, scratch that) but I'm willing to bet my Kamelot cds (and believe me, they're SACRED POSSESSIONS) that he's never been in an actual relationship before. No one would be willing to put up with his quirky personality, and with someone who's as immature and flighty as he is. No one with an normal personality, that is.
Which brings me to another point: Buzz.
Now call me whatever you will, but all of the points you guys brought up to show that there is a possibility that Zurg and Buzz are related can most definitely be twisted around to show not that they are related to each other, but obsessed with each other. And yes, I do mean that kind of "obsessed." Now, you all may think that the "opposites attract" rule is unshakable, but from what I've seen, these kind of relationships don't last very long; in the long run, it's people who actually have things in common but have different enough views and hobbies that make the best sort of relationships. Now, Buzz and Zurg have quite a lot in common, and quite a lot that separates them too, which means they already have a good basis to have a steady relationship that can work out and last for quite some time.
Yes, they're both obsessed with their jobs; yes, they're both stubborn mules that cling to their beliefs till the bitter end; yes, they both believe in what they stand for, and their belief in it is so strong and unshakable they won't back down for anything... but most importantly, they read each other like open books.
Buzz knows how Zurg's mind works. "Stress Test" is one example of many. Only he knew that the pen was a tool Zurg would use for mass destruction. Zurg, too, knows how Buzz thinks, and such is proved in the episode "Lost In Space" when he devised such an intricate scheme to get Buzz talking about Star Command's weak points. Now, these kind of examples are the points I've seen that hold me back from saying that they are father and son. For the sake of argument, let's say that they are father and son, but they don't know it. Knowing how someone's inner mind works isn't something you inherit--it's because you've observed the other person and learned how he reacts to different situations. You get to know another person by observation, not by blood.
That's all I'm really trying to say with this ultra-long post. It's basic evolution, actually. I'm not trying to just say they're definitely attracted to each other. I'm just pointing out that the reason they know each other so well isn't because of blood--it's because of years of study and observation. /end rambling
Commence the shooting. ^.^;;

As I've implied/shouted before, Zurg does not = father. At least, not in this lifetime. Heck, it's fun to play around with the concept, for a oneshot or a spoof, but I don't think the writers could ever give him children, unless you count the clones. XDDDDDD

Okay, let me explain something, guys. *bites lip* I get attached to things very easily. Once I saw a little bit of potential in the whole father/son thing... I really liked it. I still do. So I guess I'm in the minority. But I just... Someday I'm gonna write a story in which this is real, and I'm gonna make it real. *sad smile* I've invested too much time, effort, thought... and just pure love into it to let it go. It's irrevocably a piece of how I view BLoSC now. *rueful shrug* At any rate, you guys have read my stuff... you know I'm good. Could you just wish me luck... pretty please?

Awwww, didn't mean to make you bite your lips!
But a word of friendly caution: Getting attached to your work can be deadly! I know this. Once, I did this macaroni doodle on a piece of paper and thought it was the best thing since Galactic Zittles...boy was I wrong.
Broke my heart! What's left of it anyway.
I wish you best of luck, and hope you take a more unique approach from others in the past.

I wish you best of luck, and hope you take a more unique approach from others in the past. Thank you! I know how deadly getting attached to my work can be! I've been writing for... 5 years now, and I know! I can get VERY defensive of my work. *laughs at own expense* That's just me. I'm just that kind of person. I feel very deeply, and I get very passionate. In real life, it can be a weakness, but in writing, it's definitely my strength, because I what I get a really good FEEL for ALWAYS becomes my BEST. Anyway, I hope that I can be unique, or that I can at least be REAL, ya know? When I first started writing BLoSC fics, I didn't get into the characters heads very often, which was actually not only a mistake but also not my style. I mean, sweet mother of Venus, I've gotten into Palpatine's head for Star Wars, for goodness' sake! Why didn't I do that with BLoSC? I guess I'll never know. Anyway, I've spent the past couple of months really getting to KNOW the characters (despite the fact that I've still seen less than half the series, so I'm really only "flying half a ship" =P). It's been great. I've spent a lot of time working out WHY Zurg is the way he is NOW, what he USED to be like, how he's going to DEVELOP... and it's been great! I've really grown to love him A LOT through getting into his head ( and purple heart XD) and delving into his (made-up) past. It used to be that he was just a great cartoon character to me... NOW he's REAL. It's great, that's all I can say. Anyway, when time comes that I DO write Zurg as Buzz's father, you can bet that I'll do it with all the care, thought, and love I can give! I hope and pray that you'll like it!

Okay, okay. I've got it. Prepare yourselves.
Once upon a time, Zurg was actually good (probably had a different name, too). Well, he wasn't just good, he was, like, SUPER AMAZING better-than-Buzz good. He had nice friends-- hung out with the right crowd, y'know?-- and had loving parents and the whole nine yards.
Unfortunately, one of his quite wholesome and pure lady friends and he did a not-so-wholesome-and-pure act that resulted in Ms. Wholesome and Pure becoming pregnant. His parents disowned him and his friends abandoned him (the preggo lady friend stayed “in” for some reason, and they treated her like an innocent victim, which would explain Buzz's wonderful upbringing).
His Super!Good brains.... broke. He went completely insane. He blocked out/ forgot everything about his past (which makes me agree that if Zurg actually was Buzz's father, he wouldn't know it) and became just... completely corrupt and evil.
The end!
But, yeah, you certainly don't have to/ usually acquire your personality from your parents just because they conceived you. You get your personality from how you were raised and personal experiences. Just because two characters have amazing chemistry does not instantly mean they must be related by blood. It just means they have amazing chemistry. (So if we were to go along and say my above story was true, Zurg could have had the same chemistry with Buzz's mother (lulz) and she raised Buzz to be just like her.)
Well, I think I'm done babbling now.
