"Alright, Papa." Cora said, covering her mouth. Aw crap! There she goes, letting down her barrier and now she's all emotional. She hadn't called her father 'papa' since she was eight.
But him treating her like this brought back memories of a time where he didn't treat her like an adult. A mature young lady.
"Sorry." She apologised. "It's probably weird to hear me say things like that."

Buzz blinked in surprise, and rubbed the back of his neck. “Papa? Cora…” He shook his head, feeling a smile creep up on him again. “That’s… that’s kinda cute. Maybe a little weird, but… sweet.” He squeezed her shoulder. “I’ll be back.”
He strode out into the corridor and found Warp leaning against the bulkhead. “Yes, Warp?”

"Oh, not much. Mira just wanted to let you know that the rest of the team is 99.99% sure that the cubes aren't here." Still leaning on the bulkhead, Warp tried not to sound as disappointed as he felt.
"The other.001% is the slight possibility that Zurg got his hands on some special frequency scramblers and the cubes are here. Emphasis on slight possibility.

“That’s point-zero-one percent,” Buzz corrected absently as he began to pace. “Terrific.”
He had been hinging his bets on Zurg having those cubes! It only made sense, right? If those cubes contained highly-classified Star Command data, that should make it a must-have to the Evil Emperor. Buzz knew that he would feel the same were situations reversed.
Then again… Zurg was only reported to have been looking for the cubes. He could still be looking, for all they knew, or… Or they might be stored somewhere other than Planet Z, if he had them.
Buzz could think of only one way to find out. Unfortunately, that way required them to go down to the surface. But a Space Ranger’s gotta do what a Space Ranger’s gotta do, so…
Buzz leaned back into Cora’s room briefly and said, “Better come on up to the bridge, kiddo. I’m gonna talk with the team.”
Then he set off for the bridge, giving Warp a slightly brusque “C’mon.” Hey, when the man gets down to business, he gets down to business. The first thing he said once he arrived on the bridge was, “XR, you’re absolutely sure?”
XR looked up from his console. “Sure as I can be, skipper.”

Warp rolled his eyes. "Whatever. You get the picture."
"Coming." Warp replied as he let Cora pass in front of him before following Buzz to the bridge and taking his seat once again.

"The cubes aren't with Zurg, I know. I was eavesdropping." She said with a smirk. "And don't look at me like that. Trust me I'll get in trouble for it later on."
She walked past Warp and flopped down into her seat, glad that everyone's attention was not on her, but Zurg and the missing cubes. Good, she didn't want everyone's eye on her AND she really didn't want to spill the beans about her being Buzz and Mira's kid.
"If Zurg doesn't have the cubes, who does?" Mira asked.
"No one." Cora explained. "He's still looking for them. Those cubes hold a lot of power in them, enough to keep Capital Planet running for weeks on just its energy--that's what they were originally made for. Back up power supplies for the Alliance. And if Zurg had them, he could make a power weapon strong enough to blow up the sun."
"So if he had them we would have known about it by now." Mira said, catching on. "And anyone else for that matter." For some reason villains loved to ramble on about their world domination plans before they even hatched. It only made sense that Zurg would have done so if he had the cubes.
Cora nodded. "I can bet your anything that Zurg isn't 'home' right now. He's out hunting, and all we need to do is track down Zurg and follow him till we get the cubes."

Buzz lifted one rather dignified eyebrow. “I’m sure…”
***
Buzz listened as Mira and Cora talked, then spoke once Cora had finished. “Good deduction, Cadet,” he nodded. Turning back to XR, he said, “XR, try to find the freshest ion trail leaving this place. It’s as good a way as any to ‘track’ Zurg.”
“But, Buuuzz, there are like a million ion trails here!” XR protested. “It’d be like trying to find a needle in a Jo-Adian bunzel silo!”
“Bunzel…” Booster murmured, licking his lips.
Buzz gave the ‘bot a hard look. “I think that your equipment can manage – now get moving.”
“Yes, sir – yes, sir…”

((Sorry about the surprise spin on things guys. Kind of a habit of mine from other RP's ;D. Hope you don't mind, and I won't let it happen again. ))
"Zurg has a pretty huge ship, XR. All you need to do it look for the massive ion trail it leaves behind, then bingo! We have him. But I don't think he'll be happy once he spots us." Cora stated. She wondered what his face would look like once his grubs tell him 42 was on their trail.

((It’s okay, honey! xD It didn’t hurt the story, and we’re getting into action again. It’s fine. )) “I’m not here to make him happy,” Buzz smirked. “Yeah, yeah, I’m lookin’, I’m lookin’,” XR muttered. “There are a lot of massive ion signatures here, okay? I mean, the Dreadnought does a lot of traveling…” He adjusted a dial on his console. “C’mon, baby, where are you…” Buzz turned to Booster. “Booster, I want you to divert power from all our nonessential systems to the thrusters. We’re gonna have to be fast if we want to catch up with Zurg.” “Yes, sir!” “THERE SHE IS!!” XR crowed suddenly. “Woo-hoo! Buzz, I found the trail – it’s fresh!” “Good work, Ranger! Now give me the r–” “Already am.” A navigational trail appeared on Buzz’s console. “Well done.” Buzz had that look on his face, the one that he got whenever things got exciting – exciting in a positive way, that is. “Get ready, people – here we go.” He pushed the throttle forward, and 42 shot off, half again as fast as usual. Buzz carefully followed the trail, XR throwing in the occasional comment that the ion particles were getting fresher. At last, XR’s console started beeping. “Buzz, we’re getting close! These particles are getting hot!” “All right!” Buzz eased back on the throttle. “There it is – I see it!” Booster shouted, pointing. Sure enough, there was a purple speck far ahead. “Okay, good.” Buzz brought the cruiser to a complete halt. “All right, team – we’re going into stealth mode. No cloakers this time – we’re gonna do this manually.” “Manually?” Ricki echoed. “Sir, with all due respect, they could still see us.” “If we do this right, they won’t,” Buzz assured her. “Booster, I want you to power down everything but the bridge and the thrusters.” “ Everything?” “Everything.” “Okaaay…” “Buzz, we’ve got some remnants of an ion storm here,” XR informed the captain. “We need to keep maneuvering shields on, unless we want hull integrity compromised.” Buzz grimaced slightly. “All right. Booster, you heard the man.” “Yes, sir.” Buzz twisted around slightly to face XR. “You said remnants of an ion storm.” “Yeah. Good thing we caught up when we did, or we would have lost the trail like a blizzard covering up earlier snow tracks. Good news is that the residue’s gonna make it that much harder for them to spot us – it’s a natural jamming.” “Excellent.” Buzz turned around in his seat. “I’ll be glad when the LGMs can install those new ‘silent’ thrusters. Those things will increase our stealth capacity by leaps and bounds.” “Silent thrusters?” Erin echoed. “What, is it a secret project or something? ‘Cause I sure haven’t heard about it.” “Mm, it was,” Buzz replied. “Installation date is getting closer, though, so more Rangers finding out about it. Enough chatter, now, though.” The sound of the equipment on the bridge quieted, and even the lighting seemed dimmer. 42 was running on minimal power now. ((OKAY, YOU EVIL-DOERS – YOUR TURN!! ;D ))

Hellboy still couldn’t believe his luck as he gazed out the starshield on the bridge of Zurg’s dreadnaught. The stars were pale streaks of light, whizzing past them so fast that they looked more like thin streamers than dots. Or, rather, it was the dreadnaught that sped past them a such a speed.
He looked around at the grubs sitting at their consoles, busily working away at whatever it is they were doing. They were still a little odd to get used to, but the brain pods were odder to the demon, what with their cranial capsules of fluid and the fact that they were freaking brains with eyes. After much contemplation, Hellboy had come to the conclusion that they couldn’t be actual brains—maybe a brain-like race in appearance that needed machines to move around with?—what with their love for pizza and their mutual thirst for knowledge.
They had been intrigued with him when he had first arrived and had wanted to study him. But Hellboy had had enough of that in his youth to last him a lifetime and then some and had refused. That didn’t stop the pods from trying to scan him behind his back whenever they thought he wasn’t looking, though. They had made it a contest amongst themselves to see who would manage to figure out what he was first. Hellboy was more amused than irritated at their antics. If they were that curious they could have always asked him, but brain pods were notorious for trying to figure things out for themselves, so of course none had come up to him directly with questions.
The grubs, in contrast, usually avoided him. They seemed outright terrified of him—with good reason, he supposed—and only talked with him on Zurg’s behalf whenever the emperor was unavailable. But they too were intrigued by him, and would ask the pods how far along they were in their scanning progress at times. Their bet had something to do with cake—it was always about cake with them—but Hellboy didn’t know much else about it, despite how eager gossips they were.
He walked over to the centre of the bridge, looking up at Zurg sitting on his mobile throne high above. It didn’t seem practical to sit so high up, but Hellboy supposed that it was, in a sense, because Zurg had a perfect view of all his working minions and could bark orders at anyone who was slacking off.
But then again, Zurg had the bad habit of not being very talkative about his plans. But from what he had heard from the pods’ earlier gossip, that was unusual of him. They usually knew what was afoot whenever Zurg took out the dreadnaught, but this time they were in the dark just like the new agent. That wasn’t new to Hellboy though: ever since coming here he had felt like he was constantly in the dark. Whether it was because of the new environment or the fact that something bigger was at play here, he was unsure. He just felt like he was walking into things blindly, without a proper plan. He had never been one for plans, but he liked a sort of stability.
Back home, he had always known that wherever he would up he’d know more or less what to do, but here in the future it was as if he was a toddler trying to ride a bike without training wheels. Sure, he had read up on things here, practised flying with Erevos, tried to learn about this new place as fast as he could, but he couldn’t help but still feel a little lost, without a real sense of purpose. For someone with long-term goals like conquering the galaxy, Zurg didn’t seem rushed about it. In fact, it was as if he were taking his sweet time on it. It wasn’t something Hellboy associated with megalomaniacs he had met in the past. Zurg was different somehow—the demon just didn’t know how.

((FINALLY! The dominoes stack up to where I can actually post!))
Unlike his pensive, ever-so deep in thought agent, his employer was displaying actions quite opposite. On the contrary, the Evil Emperor was rather content and enjoying himself. Atop his throne, way up high, he was currently reading a little holographic newspaper with spectacles in front of his eyes as he took a reclining, relaxed posture. He was always terrible at reading close-up, you know. What did the galaxy have in store for him today, hmm?
"Ugh, terrible...Just terrible..." He muttered to himself as he tapped the panel to flip the "page". He was currently reading something about the Raenok leader, Varg, getting out on bail from PC-7. "Hmph. I bet he wanted to get out because of the prison food."
A few grubs tee-hee'd at this, for what stomach could handle the prison food on PC-7? It went without saying.
After a few more moments in silence, with only the Dreadnaught's engines producing a soft, rumbling roar, the Evil Emperor finally had enough of the paper and closed it shut, clasping the two handles together and quitting the holographic feed.
"Status report~!" He cooed from his perch while pocketing his reading glasses as he leaned a bit forward to show that, yes, he was alert now.
A grub was "volunteered" with a quick shove from its comrades, and it was selected to answer with a gulp and a quiver in its boots.
"We've left your most Unfriendly Space, your Evilness!" It squeaked with a desperate smile at the purple tyrant. "And at this rate, the brain pods have calculated we should reach your very evil destination soon. Uh...soon soon!" It nodded vigourously.
"Yeeees, yeeees." Zurg remarked, tapping his fingers rather maniacally. This was good news! Since space was so big, it was perfect of his genius to simply keep the Dreadnaught flying around. And besides, braking only wasted more crystallic fusion in the long run, so why not.
"Keep this pace up and don't alter course! Fly straight for another twenty parsecs, and don't activate stealth generators. I've got a hunch that we'll find what we're looking for soon enough~!" Zurg chuckled to himself as he lounged back into his throne.
"Call it my...Evil Emperor senses...."

“I think they’re moving,” Ricki noted.
Buzz nodded. “Booster, as soon as we clear the ion storm, power down maneuvering shields. We won’t be able to afford the energy they generate being spotted.”
“Yes, sir.”
Buzz carefully moved the ship forward, just enough to keep the Dreadnought a speck in the front viewscreen.
“I don’t know – I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” Erin murmured.
“Classic line,” XR muttered. “Coming out… coming…” After a minute, he announced quietly, “We’re clear of the storm.”
“All right,” Buzz acknowledged. “Booster?”
“Here it goes.” There was another powering-down sound as the maneuvering shields went offline. 42’s energy signal was now a mere fraction of its normal strength.
Erin shivered slightly.
Buzz kept his eyes on the Dreadnought, hands moving automatically over his console as he flew the ship at a cautious distance.

Mira furrowed her eyebrows while staring at the back of the dreadnought. Sure she had been on plenty of missions that dealt with Zurg, but nothing like this.
This was almost painful. Just imagining that one false move might end up with them battling off hundreds of hornets while Zurg got away in search of the cubes drove her crazy.
They got this far without screwing up, and she wanted it to stay that way.
"Don't you think this is a little weird?" Cora said all of a sudden. Mira looked back with practically everyone on board at the young girl that constantly got the attention of everyone on board.
"Zurg's a top notch Villain who knows about every sneaky trick in the book. How come he doesn't have any line of defense or a shield up around him in case of an attack. Any criminal mastermind would be cautious if they were traveling at light speed sector through sector. Especially if one was on everyone's wanted list."

Warp glanced around the cabin as Booster powered down the maneuvering shields, and was relieved to see that the general mood was excited and only a little worried.
Personally, Warp was only worrying about meeting Hellboy again. Sure, the first meeting hadn't gone so well, but now at least, he had an idea of what to expect.
He gave Cora's statement a moment's thought before saying, "Not to sound rude, but it's because he knows every sneaky trick in the book that he doesn't have his shields up. Either that or he's trying to get some were really, really fast and doesn't care about being attacked."

“True,” Buzz nodded. “Besides, he’s got major firepower. That tends to make people careless.”
