I actually finally saw the episode today and don't whack me for saying this but I actually like 42 and I am neutral with XR.2. As Breta once told me, all couples have their pros and cons. And I agree with most of the posts being said here.
Why I like XR.2 (as well as 42) :
1) She disliked being treated as "just a ship" just like how XR dislikes being treated "just as a robot".
2) Their personalities do match in alot of ways. She's just as sarcastic, independent, and moody as he is.
3) I like the fact that it's a bumpy kind of relationship. I know it's quite odd but I like many different types of couples; classic loving couples, friendship like couples (eg Kim/Ron), love-hate couples (eg Jimmy/Cindy), playful banter rivalry couples between enemies (eg Jake/Rose), couples with two members on opposite sides of an arguement (eg Kovu/Kiara), and even the weird stalker couples (not that much but it all depends on the charaters and how the writer's pull it off). Their "bi-polor-ness" reminded me of actual people (it probably was only rushed for plot timing) as well as their fresh comments to each other. Every couple will have their little arguements once in a while and having them argue just made it seem a little more real to me.
4) Pretty much what everyone else said about her. That was XR's first non-lustful relationship. He even metioned it himself, "42 is the woman of my dreams. Of course she has NO BODY--but we're working through that!"
5) XR seemed to "know" and "commuincate" with 42 in earlier episodes. I remember him even having a line in "Gravatina" about his relationship with her.
Why I don't like it:
Pretty much the same reasons Kila mentioned.
And Kila, you can definatly blame continuity for that. I heard 42 was the last episode.
I personally think she dumped him because she felt that XR was rushing too much, not because she's "vain" or a "shrew." I also thinked she dumped him because she wanted a life (as well as a job) of her own; she wanted to be an idividual (which was something she was deprived of when she was a ship). If she was truly that bad she would have been much more harsh to him; she could have simply yelled "I'M DUMPING YOU" but she didn't. She was even kind enough to say, "You're a really great guy and any robot would be lucky to have a guy like you." And personally in my opinion, I think she felt bad for breaking up with him; her eyes and her voice seemed pretty sad after when he quickly dropped to the floor. She even wanted to calm him down a bit and she wanted to touch his shoulder (but XR moved away).
Personally I think her anti- organics comments were based on how Buzz treated her earlier on in the episode; he insulted her and degraded her. As for the demanding and bossy thing, that's just charater flaws. XR's lustful, Buzz kind of can't express himself emotionally too well (you have to admit, he's kind of stiff), Commander Neubla has a quick temper, and Mira often gets the gang in trouble. I personally think flaws are important for charaters and their interaction.
As for her with XL, I can see it. I'm very couple tolerant. Just like how I support Stitch/Angel, good!Angel/good!627, and evil!Angel/evil!627; I can still support XR/42, good!XL/good!42, as well as evil!XL/evil!42.
Darn that was one long post.
