Mira glared at her father, and was about to give him a piece of her mind when Buzz suddenly spoke up. With wide eyes she turned to him than back at her father.
Well, you had to admire Buzz's straight forwardness on the matter. If not they would have been here all day.
"Way to go, Dad." Cora muttered under her breath. She too was looking at Buzz in surprise.
"Umm father," Mira started, breaking the silence that followed. "What he's saying is true." She went over and took his hand and looked at the King square in the eye.
"We do love each other and we do want to get married. And..." She looked over at Cora who, now staring back at her with wide eyes like she knew what she was doing, shook her head rapidly.
"And also we'd like you to meet Cora. You're granddaughter."
Aw crap! Bad move! Bad move! Cora looked over at her grandfather, waiting for the eruption that was soon to happen.

((Oh god, prepare for Mount Vesuvius.))
In lieu of this news the King said not a word. In fact, the King simply stood there; glaring. He was glaring at Lightyear, his daughter, and that...that... Slowly but surely one could see the veins on his blue, wizened temples throbbing and still without a word, the King abruptly turned his back upon them all and walked away, ghosting back into the Tangean palace just like that, the guards following with muffled surprise at their princess.

Buzz slowly let out the breath he’d been holding. “Well, I think that went about as well as could be expected,” he said mildly. “Mira?”

Mira sighed, rubbing at her temples with more force than necessary.
"You know, I think I'd prefer him screaming his lungs out at us than just stalk off like that."
She looked over at Cora, who for the love of all that's good in the world, looked heartbroken.
"Cora? Sweaty you okay?"
Cora looked at them then back at the castle entrance where her grandfather disappeared. "He looked at me like I was some kind of disease that landed on his doorstep. He never looked at me like that. Ever."

Meanwhile, back inside the comfortable lavishness of the Royal Palace, King Nova was utterly distraught. Nay, completely devastated!
"My daughter, heir to the Tangean throne, marrying an off-worlder and spawning a...a...Auuuugh...!" He nearly fainted upon his throne, slumping against the posh, rich upholstery. How was he to swallow this?! How was Tangea to stomach this!? His daughter and that space monkey! Lightyear would not make a suitable king for Tangean! He would not do at all!
"I'm ruined!" He cried out weakly, taking out an embroidered handkerchief to wipe his pale brow. "How could my own daughter do this to me!? How could she!?"

Buzz swallowed hard, immediately ashamed. He’d, of course, been relieved that he hadn’t lost his brain in the first round, but Mira and Cora also stood to be hurt by this, too.
And now he was both concerned for his daughter and angry at her grandfather. Whatever quarrel King Nova had with Buzz, it was with him, not his daughter. He pulled Cora in for a brief but feeling hug and looked over at Mira, his eyes hardening. “Mira, can you ghost me in there?”

Cora let herself be engulfed by the hug, remembering that once upon a time her father used to hug her just like that.
But too soon he let go and Mira was helping ghost through the walls of the palace. Sighing Cora followed up the rear, entering seconds after they did and didn't like what she saw.
"What do you mean we're not allowed to see him?"
"Strict orders, Princess Mira. The King does not want to be disturbed, especially not by his daughter or..." The guard gave a quick glance at Buzz then back at Mira. "Or anyone outwordlers. Strict orders mustn't be taken lightly, Princess."
Mira snorted. "Like I even listened to rules around here. I demand to see my father and that's final!"
The guard shook his head again. "No can do. We are here to make sure that you do not pass."
Mira glared at him. The guard, feeling a little intimidated, took a polite step back, much to his fellow colleges humors stares.
"Cora, go wait in the ship. This is going to take awhile." Expecting a groan of protest or a peeved 'fine' and was met with absolutely nothing made her stomach churn.
"Don't tell me." She turned around and found her daughter who was not right behind her. She looked at Buzz with the same force of anger she gave the guard. "You know she got that from you, right?"
***
Cora, who was not to be taken lightly, silently made her way through the castle as ninja like as possible. Be it sliding against walls or ghosting into closets whenever a guard passed by or a maid, she did it. With ease too.
In minutes she found her grandfather's chambers and ghosted through the door like she had the right to.
She didn't, but right now she didn't give a hoot what rights she had or didn't have. She was going to give the King a piece of her mind and he was going to listen.
But when she entered the chamber and saw him, she lost her voice and her footing as she stepped back and hit into the wall, causing a loud thud to echo down the hall.

Yes, it was true that he had issued his guards to keep his daughter and her....keep them both out. Yes, it was true that he had asked not to be disturbed; how could he let anyone see him in this awful, unwound state? He knew better than to trust the guards in keeping his daughter out, so, with a heavy heart and head, he made his way to retire early into his royal, kingly chambers.
As he slipped down the royal hall, he found the portraits of past Kings and Queens; each one holding a proud, Tangean air. And each one was just that: Tangean. King Nova stopped before his, and weakly glanced to the empty frame next to it; the frame meant for the next ruler of Tangea. An awful idea came into his mind, and he soon imagined Lightyear's face there.
Blasphemy! Sacrilege!
"No, no, no...!" He groaned, covering his eyes and blindly ghosting into his chamber, still lamenting. How could he allow this to pass!? Was he to go down in Tangea's history as the king who let a monkey rule their proud, noble race!? Was he to become a mockery for ever!? The thought was too much again, and King Nova slumped into a chair upon a balcony, which overlooked the beauty of the planet below.
No, this pristine grace was not fit for a lowly human. This was meant for a someone strong, someone of sound mind, someone superior! A Tangean only!
"What am I to do...?" He asked softly, too tired to even glance up to the sky. What would his wife say?
There suddenly came a loud thump, and the King whirled over his chair, alarmed. Someone was here! An intruder! Taking out his self-defense pistol, the King set it onto stun and got up cautiously, keeping the thing trained straight ahead with an iron resolve.
"Who's there!? Show yourself! That is a royal order!" He demanded.

Buzz backpedaled, throwing up his hands defensively. “Hey, my maybe-less-than-desirable traits aren’t the only ones she’s got, Princess.” Oops. Probably not the best thing to say under the circumstances.

Cora dragged herself back farther into the room after seeing the gun.
"Hey, hey put that down!" She yelled, flinging up her hand to stop him. "Don't worry, I'm not dangerous. Unless you fire that thing then I might try."
She steadied herself against the wall, pulling herself up, walking slowly towards the king.
"Look, gra... er, Your Majesty, I'm sorry for bothering you like this even though you strictly said no visitors but I had to talk to you. I know you don't care much for Da...Lightyear, but what your doing to Mo...Mira is unreasonable. You could at least go back down there and hear her out. I know you two have a rocky relationship, I experienced that first hand whenever we visited, but can't you see past your ignorance and come down and speak to her? I...oh great I'm rambling on and you're going to call the guards on me....Dad's going to kill me."
*** Mira glared at him, icy and cold. Oh no he... "You're asking for a fight, Lightyear, and you're going to get one right after we get our daughter and leave. Right now, though, just think of yourself treading in deep water till then. Got it?"

Buzz’s eyes flashed. “Got it, Your Highness,” he said icily, in direct contrast to the heat in his blue eyes. “Yeah, in case you haven’t figured out yet, Mira, I open my mouth sometimes and the wrong thing comes out. So I’m sorry, and I apologize. But now—” he jabbed a finger for emphasis—“is not the time for infighting, and later won’t be much better, either.”

Mira blinked. "If you didn't actually sound so manly right then I might have smacked you upside the head." She turned towards the guards.
"Could we wait in the garden for the time being? I got a feeling my father is going to see us quicker than we thought."
"I don't see why not. But you might be out there for longer than you think."
Mira smiled. "Just tell him where to find us when the time comes. Come on Buzz."
She took his hand and ghosted him out, dragging him along the side of the palace towards the garden of her youth.
"Before you ask any questions, I got a feeling she's with father right now. Leave em be."

"Hmph, who are you to tell me what to do." King Nova growled. He did lower the gun, however, remembering his manners even if it was a half-bred abomination he had no knowledge could have happened in the first place. As the young thing tried to reason with him, the King had other ideas; Tangean ideas.
"Now you see here, young missy." He began, snatching his cane and propping against it proudly. "Before you preach to me about my daughter, you should know that she has wounded me far worse than what I am to do with her." Of course, how could the little girl possibly understand royal, kingly agendas? To make it easier, he was going to lay it out for her mind to grasp. "Firstly, I will not be the first king of all Tangea to let a future ruler be non-Tangean. That is against our very tradition! And secondly, she has done more than just disobey my commands as king; she has disrespected my authority as her father! And as her father, I do not condone the marrying of off-worlders and having half-breed spawn! This cannot happen! It cannot!" He pointed at her angrily, temper rising.
Mira had to have gotten it from somewhere.
"And thirdly..." The king let out a sigh and looked away. "As much as I've always wanted grandchildren of my own...I am not sure I can...accept this." It was a hard thing to say to the child. Yes, he was acting rigid and hard-headed but he wasn't cold or selfish. He was thinking of his people--his very culture. No one on Tangea would accept this! Not at all! If anyone was being selfish, it was his daughter! Sure, he could have tolerated that Grounder--somewhat--but a human? Someone not from Tangea herself? Preposterous! This was an absolute slap to the face! This shouldn't even be happening!
"I'm sorry, but as the ruling King of Tangea I cannot...I cannot fathom this!" He ended, flustered and distraught.

Cora, who once felt like it was a slap to the face for her dear old granddad to treat her like this, was annoyed now. She was pinching the bridge between her eye and groaning at the same time.
Old men stuck in their old way. Gah! Sometimes she wished she could just go into her grandfather's mind and switch everything around, but it just so happens she didn't get that far in her training yet.
"You know, you can act like a highly respectable King, but you're such a dolt sometimes it's unbelievable!" She was done with the lowly peasant routine and was making her way back to her snarky personality everyone knew and...well, didn't love just yet. She was working on that.
"I don't care if you accept any of this one bit! What I do care is that you're acting like a stick in the mud. A man stuck in his ways forever without giving anything else a chance, just sitting back while watching the world change around him, not wanting to help with the progress.
"You think your daughter is hurting you? She might be, but I can tell you she isn't doing it on purpose. Unlike you she likes change. She loves it really, she takes hold of it and accepts it. That's why she left in the first place because she wanted change. Unlike you!"
She was being harsh, but this conversation was luke warm anyways. Harsh was accounted for every time they spoke to one another. And any which way, even if the guards did come to take her away and throw her out to her perturbed parents, she wanted at least a few words in edgewise.
And did she spit those words out! "Think about it, if she didn't love you or care about your thoughts or opinions she wouldn't have put a foot down on this planet in the first place! And another thing who said that my father is going to be the next king? So far in my timeline he still works for Star Command and will for a very, very long time."

Buzz nodded slowly. “I kinda figured.” Hands in his pockets, he took a few steps into the garden and sighed explosively. “Craters. Why can’t things ever be easy for us just once?”
