Well, I'm finally brave enough to post my first attempt at Marred. *squeezes eyes shut* Let's get this over with...
She was looking at him. Not saying anything, just... looking. Without any particular expression on her face. It was creeping him out. Well, sort of. XR swiveled around as inconspicuously as he could, searching for anything, anything else that Mira could be looking at. There was nothing. Unless you counted a waddling little LGM making his way towards the science bay. He didn’t think she was staring so intently at that. I should make a joke, talk to her, something- He turned back around, narrowing his eyes. Mira was gone.
~~
She couldn’t believe that she had stared at XR like that. She was practically drooling. She didn’t even realize she was doing it until he turned around. He probably thinks I’m a freak now. Or I’ve gone crazy. It made Mira angry to think of that, but a cold feeling stopped her. Why do I care? I mean, he’s my teammate and all, and my friend- The cold feeling again. She silently admonished herself. You weren’t even REALLY looking at him. You were just ... thinking. That’s all. Thinking about what? She couldn’t remember now. Mira squeezed her eyes shut. I am Mira Nova, Space Ranger. I have faced things that would make grown men cry. I have faced the likes of Zurg, Warp Darkmatter, and- she shuddered- Fop Doppler. WHY IS THIS BOTHERING ME? WHY ARE MY FEELINGS GOING HAYWIRE ON ME? She opened her eyes and let out a long breath.
~~
XR, with his short attention span and general indifference towards the incident, barely even remembered what had happened. Yet, there was something nagging at him, something, well, shivery. That was the only word he could use to describe it. It was one of those things that no one had invented a word for. As if his mind needed something to get hung up on, seeing as “all was quiet on the home front” that day, XR began to ponder what would be a suitable word for the feeling. Wirshy? No. That sounded like some sort of sauce... Brizzerly? Ew. Where had THAT come from? Cold-wet-sad-just got out of the shower feeling? He didn’t even know what that felt like. This apparent hole in the English language exasperated him. They can invent a word for throwing someone out of a window, but they have no word for this? People were so stupid sometimes.
~~
Mira was attempting to distract herself by having a conversation with Booster. It was working; his stories about Jo-Ad were very interesting, but deep into his monologue of how his mother made the best dinners you could imagine, she zoned out. That feeling... It unnerved her. She could feel herself moving away --physically or mentally, she couldn’t tell-- from Booster. The last time she had felt that feeling- she couldn’t remember. But she could, deep inside her. No, NO- No matter how hard she tried, there it was, rising like a great white butterfly of hope in her chest, in her heart-
She mentally squashed the butterfly. I. Said. No. Just friends. Just friends. Oh, no. Fate was conspiring against her, for around the corner came the object of her thoughts.
“Hey, Booster, Mira!” XR said in his happy-go-lucky, offhand way. Mira’s breath caught in her throat. No jokes. No ill-disguised flirting. Could he be angry? I mean, he saw me staring... She couldn’t detect any anger at all, in his voice, in his face. Just... a bit of nervousness, caution. Could he know? Could he feel the same- No. Mira repeated the words inside her head as she walked over to the chatting buddies. Just friends. Just. Friends. Just....
*is hyperventilating*
