Does XR actually get a paycheck or not?
On one hand, he's a machine, and technically property, like a computer, so you'd think he wouldn't be. But then again, there are several mentions in BLoSC of robots getting paid for their work, and XR mentions getting his pay docked as a disciplinary action a couple times.
Also, we see him with money a few times, buuut he coulda gotten that anywhere, selling Mira's stuff on eBay or something.

I think he does get paid, he is considered more a who than a what.

Akay.
Yeah, that makes more sense. It's really inconsistent, though... like, in TaB they specifically say 'not who, what' and in NOS-4-A2 they talk about shutting him down and then later on they treat him like a normal employee.
Although, I guess that could just mean he acts like a person, so people started thinking of him that way.
Or maybe lazy writers are still lazy.

At first, I don't think the rangers knew how to treat XR. So they treated him like a thing. Or at least Nebula and the LGMs did. But I imagine sometime after the episode Nos 4 A2, they began treating him like a person, like Kila said.
I imagine he does get pay; did you see all the "loose change" he had in The Return of XL.

Yeah, he acted more lifeless. Like a "what."
Don't forget: the LGMs said at the end of TAB that XR was "almost human."

That's true, but Commander Nebula seemed reluctant to even admit XR existed, so it probably took him longer to notice the massive change.

Yeah, Nebula needed a while to come around. He still had that bad experience with XL fresh in his mind.

It's really inconsistent, though... like, in TaB they specifically say 'not who, what' I think the LGMs will always view XR more as a machine, since they were the ones who built him and they're constantly looking inside him and fixing him up. They've always seemed to me to have the least amount of concern for his emotional/physical comfort. They have more of a logical, scientific approach to him. His team sees him all the time and can see his reaction to a lot of different situations, so it does make sense that they would come to view him more as a person.

Yeah, I think you're right. like how they don't bother telling him he has metal fatigue. "It'll all be in the repoooort... |D"

Could have saved a lot of trouble if they'd just told him... Plus he has a right to know what's wrong, after all...

I know. It bugged me when they didn't even tell him what's wrong with himself. I mean, that would be like a doctor saying that they'll give you a perscription without telling you what sickness you have.

I do believe XR does get payed. Like others said, he has talked about getting money or getting deducted of his pay.
