I agree with Fop's accent being a pain in the neck, but I'm wondering if anyone's considered Fop/Mira as a potential canon couple if the series continued.
-Dodges large amounts of flying objects.- Just hear me out first. I understand that there was some Beer/Marred moments in the episode, no doubt about that. And a pairing called "Mop" sounds rather stupid. But if Fop had been given a bit more screen time, I'm thinking there could be potential there.
If you think about it, he didn't display much of the "I'm a Tangean so I'm so much better than all of you haha" attitude that every other Tangean in the episode did. (Excluding Mira of course). In fact his first reaction to going to ranger academy was more like "Wow that's awesome let's go for it" rather than "Ew I have to hang around with a bunch of monkeys."
Then he goes off and gets every honor and award imaginable and becomes valedictorian. In probably a very short amount of time. According to the beginning of the episode Mira was supposed to get married in one day, but I'm sure that bought her a little time. So this lets us know that Fop can really kick some butt if he wanted and he makes a good ranger.
I don't think he was involved at all with Lord Angstrom's plot. I'm sure the situation was more like "Oh, it says here I can ask for Mira's hand. Cool, I get to marry the princess!" He was just exposed to the rules of the land by Angstrom and thought it would be a good idea at the time. Besides, by the end of the episode he basically defeated Angstrom by his own hand and said he'd rather be a ranger than marry her. I think that gives them potential to get to know each other better at a later time. How many other Tangeans are that open minded?
It would have been cool to see how her relationships with Romac and Fop developed on later in the series, but I guess we'll never know.

oh no, if the series had continued I would have hoped he would never be seen again, I'm trying to ignore this whole episode happened to begin with, so to me it didn't.
The writers thought it would hi-freaking-larious for the guy to be so retardedly good a ranger, well I think it's disturbing, a little insulting too. For one insulting to buzz because he is the hero and all, and then to mira as they seem to be insinuating (or at least it could be interpreted as) mira being good not because she gives it her best and tries hard, but because she tangean. So a tangean woman can be almost as good as the greatest ranger, wait 'till you see a tangean MAN!, he was so good he was already the best, no training no anything!, more than beginner's luck, writer's bull crap : D.
I'm gonna go ahead and call it mop, since I like this pairing so much.

Well, when I think about Adventure Begins, Mira also rose straight to the top without even trying. Buzz said himself he trains on level 9, and she kicked the crap out of level 10 training without breaking a sweat. So ability-wise, Tangeans do seem to be up at the top. However, Buzz is a legend also because of his quick thinking and leadership skills and he's always managing to save everyone when things look down. So in that respect he still is the hero and the leader, and will remain that way because he has more experience.
But I do agree with you that his super ability is fairly full of crap. We don't know how long Mira has trained in AB whereas he does it in one day.

Cool, we're not that far off.
Ok, but we do know she attended the academy, it wasn't inmediate, mira in reality is good because she is mira, not just because she is tangean, now that gives her a huge edge (and that's what allows her to go into level 9, that's what saved her).

Huh, I never thought about it that way... but come to think of it? RedRage has a point. From everything we've been shown in the series... you need TRAY-NING to be a space ranger. TRAINING. Not five seconds of it, yeeeeears of it. They TRIED to make insta-ranger by building XR and he's BAD at it. So... yeah... it bugs me when people do gags like that without thinking about it...

Okay, after capping the episode now I've seen it in a bit more detail so I can go back on this. Not sure if this needs to be in the couples board but it's more episode specific so that's why I'm putting it here.
So yeah, Mira's challenge is actually to complete basic training, so it made me wonder just how basic it is. I mean if you think about it, being valedictorian of your first grade class can sound like a big deal, too. You also get a bunch of gold stars and awards in kindergarten. So maybe basic training is to get people to get a very very basic idea of the Space Ranger program, and then when they stay they get hit with the hard stuff. Who knows?
Yeah, I know Fop also beat the grounders to a pulp at the end of the episode, but come on, they're grounders. I'm pretty sure grounders are easier to beat than hornets. (He also tore off his clothes and had his ranger uniform underneath during the wedding. )
I think if Fop was brought back, the writers would have been able to save his insta-super-ranger status by putting him up against a swarm of hornets.
Fop: "All right! Taking out these buggers should be jolly fun!" -Punch.- "Yow, my hand! I say, that really smarts! All right then, how about a wrist-laser blast!" -Destroys a couple of hornets.- "I say, now that's more like it! ... All right, there seem to be a bit too many now...um, if you could just hold still...aaahhh!" And then he runs around crying.
I still think if Fop was given a chance to come back, there'd be some more possibilities. He wasn't a bad character, maybe a bit rushed.
Okay, well that's my two cents.

Depending on how you wanna look at it, basic training in the military is a short time and the real hardcore specialized stuff happens in AIT after that. Police work, it depends on which academy you attend, but it's similar; for instance, State Highway Patrol goes through advanced training after basic academy training, specializing in accident reconstruction.

XD And you've got a good point: basic training =/= complete Ranger training. He's probably still got a lot more work to go through if he wanted to be a full Ranger.

That's actually a really good point. He does seem a lot more easygoing than the other Tangeans. And I remember when I first saw the episode, thinking there could be potential for them; especially that look Mira gives him when he's off fighting the Grounders. And at the end, she really seemed to have warmed up to him. But he'd need a lot more character development for me to warm up to him. He was just really annoyingly perky. I don't know if Mira could live with him in his current state of over-enthusiasm. But yes, potential if the series had continued.

Yeah. Well, any oneshot character is gonna be kind of bland.

I thought Fop was a fruitcake. He really did annoy me, but he wasn't a bad guy. Kinda like in Romeo and Juliet, Paris was a good guy that just fell in love with Juliet, but since she rejected him we didn't like him. Also since there was no other guy in Mira's life(Except for Buzz, Booster, and XR, but hey they're her co*workers), so the relationship could have worked out if given time. The only reason I like him is because he is the reaosn I first heard my dad giggle like a girl. My dad laughs, but he osunds more manly, but when he heard, "To infinity and jolly well past it...." his laugh made me laugh harder.

Watched this again the other day. There's one line in here that makes me laugh everytime:
Mira: "Call me Mind-Muffin again, and you'll be eating your wedding cake through a tube!"

Oh, gosh, this episode's so quotable. Fop especially, he just made me snicker so bad. And Team Lightyear crashing through the palace to save Mira from the Dress of Horror. And Fop winning all those medals in basic training and then actually proving that he's pretty decent in a fight. Plus, I love all your helpful information above. I would have never known that basic military training was relatively short. And I would have never noticed what RedRage pointed out, either.
I liked Lord Angstrom's little Tangean trick, mind-wiping Mira's memory of encountering the Grounders. Think Mira could learn that too if she gave her father some leeway, like how she learnt how to sift through minds in The Planet Destroyer? But on the subject of Grounders... did the fact that Tangeans living in the sky and Grounders living on the surface of the planet seem kind of, oh, I dunno... off to you? I know some of this has already been discussed in a Tangean culture thread in another section of the forums, but I really can't believe that the Grounders would just sit by and let the Tangeans boss them around, especially when you consider the fact that their mental powers are cancelled when in close proximity... just a thought.

Hmm, interesting thought.... it seemed to me like most of the Grounders just don't care what the royals are doing. They seem to be happy with their own little culture down on the surface.
