No actual government would be able to last long with such an unbalanced system, though, realistically speaking. At least that's how I see it.

I was rewatching this episode, and realized that my favorite quote hasn't made it into the thread yet: "Prepare to prepare... the preparations." ;D Lovely. And it tells us so much about their culture, doesn't it? I know some of this has already been discussed in a Tangean culture thread in another section of the forums, but I really can't believe that the Grounders would just sit by and let the Tangeans boss them around, especially when you consider the fact that their mental powers are cancelled when in close proximity... just a thought. I get the feeling that the Grounders' attack on the Royals* in this episode was Angstrom's doing; if he'd never given them the idea, they wouldn't have thought of it, and they wouldn't have cared. I mean, Mira says in this episode, "I'd rather live on the surface with the Grounders." That implies that ONLY Grounders live on the surface, and the Royals ONLY live OFF the surface. If the Grounders were being actively oppressed by Tangeans that lived among them, that'd be one thing; but if they're living in a castle in the sky that doesn't even have any freakin' doors, the Royals are a pack of distant snobs that the Grounders know about, but don't actually have anything to do with. I never got the feeling that the Royals were actually bossing the Grounders around--with the exception of Angstrom, but the Grounders only listened to him because they thought there was something in it for themselves. More likely, the Royal/Grounder relationship is one in which both species try as hard as possible to avoid each other. Just because the Royals wear pretty glitzy lavish clothes and the Grounders are happy with utilitarian boots and t-shirts doesn't mean the Royals are oppressing the Grounders. It might just be cultural differences. No actual government would be able to last long with such an unbalanced system, though, realistically speaking. At least that's how I see it. Does it ever say in canon that the Royals have any sort of actual governmental authority over the Grounders? I know we see a lot more of the Royals than we do of the Grounders, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we can assume the Royals are running the show. And hey, if Mira had been a Grounder, we might be going through the show thinking that the Grounders were a bunch of thugs who kept those prissy blue-skinned Royals imprisoned in a floating castle while the Grounders ran the planet, because we'd be seeing a lot more Grounders than Royals. *I don't remember where I got the idea that the blue-skinned Tangeans were called Royals, or if I just made that up for convenience. (Is it in an episode? I don't think it is...) But when talking about both Mira's species and the Grounders, I prefer to call Mira's species "Royals" because... well, Grounders are from Tangea too, so technically they're also "Tangeans." Calling them Royals and Grounders seems more equal to me.

I like to call them Blue-Bloods but Royals works too.
It's too bad the show never goes into detail about their governments on Tangean but it looks like the two species stay far away from each other in all aspects--as their powers do cancel each other out, as well. Grounders have the floor and hey, they like to blow stuff up on it, and the Blue-Bloods are allowed to float within their palaces and continue to be snobs.
If I had my way, it'd be VERY easy to conquer Tangea and take their masses of wealth.
A planet divided is a planet well worth considering to crush; but I'm not an Evil Emperor so oh well. XD

Of course if you tried that they'd team up into one big butt-kicking mighty force and give us a nice big Aesop about respecting people's differences.

XD That was Lord Angstrom's plan, too; use the Grounders against the Royals, and then most likely betray the Grounders. We saw how that turned out. Of course, it might be easier if the plan is not to conquer and rule Tangea, but to conquer and subjugate the planet. Then again, there's always nuisances like Team Lightyear to consider. And now, Fop Doppler. Of course if you tried that they'd team up into one big butt-kicking mighty force and give us a nice big Aesop about respecting people's differences. And that could happen too. Though what kind of a force WOULD it take to get them to team up? Obviously, if the planet's about to be destroyed and they have no other line of defense, they'd grudgingly turn to each other. Short of that, what would the bare minimum threat have to be for them to team up? Environmental damage? Royals don't care. Theft of precious jewels and artifacts? Grounders don't care.
