The strange questions I ask for fanfic research...
I'm working on a fic that, among other things, says that Earth is (well, was--it's been kinda destroyed now) one of the worlds in the Galactic Alliance, and there's a scene where Buzz and Nebula are looking at old Earth news broadcasts, stored on DVDs.
The questions: are DVDs (or CDs), or basically any sort of disk-shaped information-storage devices, used in the Galactic Alliance, as far as we know? I can't remember ever seeing any, but I'm still catching up with all the episodes I haven't seen in years, so I might've forgotten.
Also, I know that there are things that sure LOOK a lot like your basic television in the BLoSC universe, but what do the characters call them? Do they ever refer to them as TVs or as something else? Or does the issue ever come up?
I'm sure there's someone in here who'll remember if anything like that ever came up in the show, heh. Anyway, thanks for the help.

You know...that's a good question....I don't think they ever mentioned anything like that. I just made something up fast and called them holo-records, or vid-disks. You know, sorta like those glowing blue data disks in Star Wars, back in the Jedi Archives.
As for the TV, Zurg did call it 'Cable' back in the episode 'Star Smasher'. Not sure what they called it though....I just called it vid-trans. I dunno XDDDD
These are interesting questions though! I wish the writers included more of the technology for future usage.

Huh. So we know they've got cable of some sort... They also mentioned a videophone in Stranger Invasion, and I guess it's sorta similar in appearances to a TV... I wonder what else they have.
Hey, they did have some sort of video-player in Nos-4-A2, when Buzz was looking for footage of XR doing something heroic. How did that thing work? All we saw were those weird-looking controls.

That player's the Interocitor, from B-movie This Island Earth. If you use it, I suggest naming it as such. Those controls, in the way Buzz used them, I suppose were for switching video, or fast forward/reverse.

In Eye of the Tempest the term holo-vision (I dunno the real spelling) is used, I believe it's referring to a TV thing, but it's probably more what would be for watching broacast shows than for recorded data. They have screens that they can watch things on (like what you mentioned in that scene in NOS-4-A2, that control system I think was created by that annoying Klerm guy... but I might have misunderstood what they said, that was in The Main Event) and in The Shape Stealer Buzz has a tiny little CD/DVD thing with video from their mission on it.
I dunno if that helps, but it's all I can think of right now...

Yeah! You notice how most of those things have a rotary dial? So much for Klerm's computer.

That's the Interocitor?! Oh, jeez, now I recognize it! XD Man, how did I miss that? I'll remember that if I use it in any way. Thanks for pointing that out.
So, "holo-vision" is their term for TV... And they do have DVD-type things, then. Okay, thanks. I'll have to re-watch those episodes now.
