Perhaps because the man he views as his father (Cmdr. Nebula) is so unaccepting of him, and spoke blatantly against the very concept of him. In FRONT of him, no less- albeit pre-personality. "No bucket of bolts can stand up to a real ranger!"- RIGHT IN FRONT OF XR. "GET THAT THING OUT OF HERE!" And even Buzz rejected him initially- "NO MORE PARTNERS!" Seriously, these early experiences of rejection may have had large effects on his psychology- including his need to be needed and desire to be more like his organic friends. So maybe he's just naive? I mean, obviously...but he's not ALL the time. But is it just me, or would a very observant person notice that after a while, all the girlie stuff just makes him seem more, well, immature than 'human?' If so... This is a great character trait. An awesome character trait, in fact. IMO, what he really wants is to feel accepted on the level his colleagues are. There's a gap there, so he tries to act more like organics. He's overcompensating for something he thinks is being perceived as a fault- his very nature as a robot.

But it still doesn't make any sense that he would be able to comprehend... No...able to understand why people look at those magazines/act that way/make flirtatious remarks, because if what we know is actually true... geez I'm trying my best to be inconspicuous about this... robots really don't feel, I mean, do they? Robots react to things, but on the most basic level...They're made of metal. I mean, you have to have some senses to be able to enjoy...something like that. Get what I'm saying? But what I mean is why this particular goal? (Not that he's really trying to achieve something other than acceptance by this... I don't think... but why not stamp collecting? I mean, some humans do that. Or...why not, like, eating? Wait...That's been proven hazardous... Maybe I'm wrong, and being *cough* a flirt is the only human thing he can really do that all humans can relate to, and won't destroy him. For example, eating food could be something human, but eating food makes him shortcircuit. Flirting doesn't make him shortcircuit. Shut up, that wasn't dirty!.. O///O ANYWAY... Uh...

Hmm, interesting question... I believe BLoSC-verse robots have sensors that enable them to "feel" things touching them and etc., but not exactly in the same conventional way we humans perceive it. They get the raw input, and then sort of an emulation of the way a human would feel it, if you understand what I'm trying to say.

...aren't you 14, missy?
Anyway.
XR needs to be needed because everyone needs to be needed. Depending on genetics and environment, some need it more than others. XR was brought into the world without friends or any true family. He's clearly social, so he latched onto people right away- his team, Commander Nebula. But unlike people with real blood ties to others, he has to recognize at least a little bit that none of HIS ties are automatic or permanent. So he clings. And being accepted would make him safe. If people want to be around him, he doesn't have to try so hard.
And he just wants to be liked. Because that's him. He has more organics around him than robots, so he attaches himself to the organics.
my theory, anyway.

O.O Wow, interesting thread you guys have here.
I interpreted the under warrenty to mean something similar to under-age, like how adults can't date someone under 18.
And as for XR's flirty-ness, I think there could be something in his programming that makes him like pretty ladies, though I'm sure it wasn't put in there intentionally. And then what Kila said about him needing to be accepted and loved, he might think that hitting on these girls will get him that. Attention=good.

Yeah.
Exactly!
My previously stated point is maybe he DOESN'T understand. Maybe he's just doing it because everyone else is.

...if you understand what I'm trying to say. I'd like to think that...And I actually do believe it (because otherwise... how could he be so relatable?) but it still doesn't make sense. But that's kind of a dumb reason not to believe it, I mean, how can they visit all those planets without actual tests being performed on them to make sure that they were at least a little safe first? That doesn't make sense, but all in all, not everything in BLoSC makes sense. And it never will. But it's still worth trying to make sense of, I think, because, well, it's fun, and also just generally interesting. YES AND THAT MEANS I CAN PLAY RATED 'T' GAMES. =D Also... I could be a fourty year old man stalking small children from his mother's PC. You just never know. BE TEH CAREFULS. Nice theory, but I still like to think that there's something behind...even that.I interpreted the under warrenty to mean something similar to under-age, like how adults can't date someone under 18. Well, actually, they can. Date them that is. >_>

OH SNAP D8
Well... I understand what you're trying to say, but not everything can have something behind it. Eventually you just kind of... hit the wall. Real people, for example. Sometimes they're just a certain way.
(And I... think 16 is legal, not 18. Unless I'm wrong, which I often am.)

Sometimes they're just a certain way. I don't know if I believe all of that necessarily. I personally believe that people have a tendency to behave a certain way, but I think that there must be someone they say doing this when they were younger or someone who they've known for a long time doing whatever it is that they do, or they saw it pretty often on T.V. or found it on the internet, or learned from friends and acquaintances. I also think that events phase people and make them inclined to do things, and the way their treated by their peers and authority figures, you know? The world shapes you. That being said... Where did XR learn this...tendency he has? I have a hard time believing that it just popped out of no where, or that it was "programmed" into him, because...why would that be? The LGMs probably wouldn't even think about putting something like that in there (going back in the conversation a tad: if they were building a human, this would be a different story) because he really doesn't need it. And who could he possibly have learned it from? I feel like I'm missing something...Although that could be my gull bladder...

he reads a lot of.... those magazines, I kind of prefer that he just mimics everybody, because he is a robot and... he won't really reproduce like that.

Well, the rejections I first mentioned were all in the first 5 MINUTES of his life.. How much younger do you need?
