“Hey!” XR cried, insulted. “I could – wait a second, like I’d want to babysit!” He stuck his nonexistent nose in the air as he wheeled over to the robot beverages.
Buzz sighed. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” He turned to Erin and Liz and sent his sister a questioning glance, and she nodded in reply. He turned his attention fully to Liz and said, “See what I have to put up with? I don’t know how Mira and I are ever going to survive sixteen years with that kid.”
A Cheshire grin split Buzz’s face. “I can imagine.”
“Says you,” she retorted. “Yo, en la otra mano – siendo una chica de Latina – amo la salsa caliente en mis huevos.”
Buzz laughed.
“Huh?” Booster frowned. “What’d she say?”
“I don’t know – I lost my Spanish translation program,” XR told him.
“She said, ‘I, on the other hand – being a Latina girl – love hot sauce on my eggs,’” Buzz grinned.
“Bueno, mi hermano!” Erin clapped lightly.

Well, this was something. Liz hadn’t met many people who liked messing around with their eggs.
“Oh, hot sauce is just amazing,” she said earnestly. “And have you tried adding a little basil too? Sometimes a little seasoning can go a long way.”
Ah, so Erin had Hispanic origins. No wonder she liked her food hot and spicy.
“See what I have to put up with? I don’t know how Mira and I are ever going to survive sixteen years with that kid.”
She looked down at her tray, hoping that Buzz still wasn’t angry with her, but he seemed to have gotten over it. “Usually, children that are a hassle when they’re older are well-behaved when they’re toddlers, or vice versa.” She paused for a moment, before venturing, “My... brother was like that. A fussy baby, more or less, but grew calmer over the years. I wouldn’t worry too much.”

Warp shook his head in exasperation as he filled yet another coffee mug and set it on his tray.
"Please tell me you're just kidding." He rolled his eyes heavenward, and seated himself at an unoccupied table.

“I guess I’m not actually worried,” Buzz shrugged. “Just a little irritated.” He directed that last part at Cora.
“No, I haven’t,” Erin told Liz, casting a triumphant smirk at Warp. “I’ll have to try that sometime!” She moved away to settle next to Warp.

"You do that." Warp half-glared at Erin when she took the seat next to him. "I can't wait to see the kitchen explode."

“The teenage years are the hardest,” Liz agreed. “Teens wanting to supersede the authority their parents have inflicted, gain a little independence...” She patted Buzz’s forearm reassuringly. “It’s all about perspective. No sweat.”
Liz smirked at the banter between the recently-married couple. They really seemed to fit together well, now that she thought about. Looking at them, you couldn’t possibly dream that they’d only known each other for, what, a year? Two at the most? They spoke with a familiarity that reminded her of home, of Abe and Kate and Johann... and Hellboy.
Moistening her lips, she filled her cup with orange juice and settled down into a seat at the table.

Buzz smirked slightly, fixing himself another cup of coffee. “Thanks, Liz.”
“Ohhh, don’t be ridiculous,” she chided. “A little basil never made a kitchen explode. And if you don’t like my cooking, you can get a different cook.”
“Like that’s ever going to happen,” Buzz grinned, sinking into a chair at the table. Booster and XR took up a window booth nearby – the chairs were too small for the Jo-Adian to fit on.

"Maybe a little basil never did, but put that with you and the hot sause..." Warp paused. "Just let me get to the basement before you start so I'm mostly safe."
Turning to Buzz he said, "It might not happen at our house, but I think you house could be a different story in the future."

Erin just smacked the table with her forehead and groaned.
“Huh?” was Buzz’s confused response.

It was Warp's turn to sport a triumphant grin as he turned to Buzz. "...Never mind." Somehow he felt that his explaination could only make things worse.

"You were an awesome sitter. Mom just never gave you enough credit. But I can see why she let you off the hook. You did teach me the wonders of sarcasm." Cora giggled.
"Then I'm doing my part as a teenager!" Cora nodded, biting into her bagel. She was opt for trying something different other than eggs every day. Oh how she missed home cooked meals.
"It's not every day that you get to drive your parents crazy before they even had you yet. Trust me, back in the future I'm a little angel."
"I hardly believe that." Mira commented.
"No, it's true. Really. I'm the most well behaved kid in the Junior program. That's the time you really ever see me anyways."

XR perked up, turning back to Cora. “…Really?” He whooped and threw his fists into the air. “Woo-hoo, I win the game!”
Erin laughed. “I think somebody’s been online too much.”
“XR taught you to be sarcastic?” Buzz wondered aloud. “I would’ve thought you’d’ve gotten that from Mira…” Then he realized what he was saying and belatedly shut up, now sporting a sheepish expression.
Erin’s brown eyes danced over the hand that was firmly covering her mouth, lest she break out into surprised laughter. XR just shook his head.

“…The only time we ever see you is in the Junior Rangers?” Buzz asked in disbelief. He shook his head. “Sounds like we have some issues to work through in the future.”

They were all sitting down and eating when Commander Nebula appeared. The Rangers stood and saluted.
“Oh, for crying out loud, at ease!” he told them.
“Good morning, sir?” Buzz offered.
“Mornin’,” the Commander grumbled, turning to Liz. “You must be Liz Sherman.” He extended his hand. “I’m Commander Nebula – welcome to Star Command.”

"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that." Mira replied, eying Buzz sharply.
"...Yeah well there's a few incidents in the future that make it hard for the family." Cora sighed. She looked down at her half eaten bagel, deciding that she wasn't hungry anymore, casting aside.
"What kind of incidents?" Mira asked, curiosity getting the best of her yet again. She didn't know about Buzz, but she was getting more and more anxious about knowing her future. Cora was an encyclopedia of everything and anything of their future lives that gobbling up the information could be a conversation away.
But with the stone-cold look Cora had on her face right then, Mira decided it was best no to know.
*
Cora belatedly notice Commander Nebula walk in, and before she could even give a salute he was over by Liz. Oh well, not like she saluted him in the last few weeks anyways.
"I always wondered Cora," Mira whispered. "Is Commander Nebula still around in the future?"
"As is in 'still kicking' around? Or around Star Command around? Alive yes, Commander no. He retired when I was about six and we got a new Commander right after that. He's pretty nice, a good leader, but he's obnoxious beyond all f-..."
Mira bent over, cupping her hand over the girls mouth. "Finish that sentence and I'll make sure you'll spend all your summer vacations in Ryzome learning about plants."
Cora's eyes went wide and she nodded.

((@cherry: It’s spelled “Rhizome,” hon. )) “Heh-heh.” Buzz wished he could sink right through the floor like Mira and Cora could. Buzz leaned forward, interested. Normally, he was the kind of guy to take life from day to day, but having a living piece of the future among them – well, a piece of the future that wasn’t half-senile like his 150-year-old self – definitely sparked his curiosity about what was to come. He was a little disappointed and even a bit apprehensive when Cora didn’t answer, her face hardening. Chewing at the inside of his cheek, he returned his attention to his food.

((Opps. LOL. One planet that I need to look up a ref for XD))
Cora licked her lips, staring at her plate. A weird kind of smile played across her face as she thought of what to say to that question.
"It's something you have to be there for."
Mira raised a brow, not expecting that kind of answer. "So basically we have to wait till we reach that point?"
Cora shrugged. "It depends on how much I mature by these turn of events. I might just tell you later on."
