"Right," he grunted. Looking around, he couldn't spot the control for the starshield immediately. Once he did, he pressed the button, and with a whoosh! the starshield snapped into place. He reached out and tugged on the edge, making sure that it was firmly sealed.
"Starshield secure."

"Excellent! Now....let's see what I did with the hangar door opener...."
Smoltz dug inside his dirty tunic, fiddling around as he pulled out notebooks, pens, spare change, slim recorders, and just about anything a turn-coat would have until, finally, he pulled out a gizmo.
"Ahah! I knew I had it on me somewhere." He smirked, setting it on his lap. "Okay then! Just direct the ship over to your right, near that power box, and I'll let you loose."
Oh please don't let this agent have a lead hoof!

Hellboy eased the thrusters towards the right, and the ship followed his movements. Ever-so-gently, ever-so-gently--he'd seen some sci-fi movies in his time, and sudden movements led to faster-than-the-speed-of-light jerks which they could so not afford right now.

"Nice and easy...niiiiiiice and easy....."
The agent wasn't doing so bad so far with that abnormality for a hand of his. So long as he didn't crush the throttle, it would be a good day!
When they approached the control box, Smoltz took out his gizmo and pressed the only button with a firm teal thumb. A whir of gears could be heard creaking before them and a gigantic slab of creased metal slowly rose up with a mechanical whine; daylight pouring onto them radiantly.
"Oh wow....sun's up already, huh?" The alien whistled, raising a hand to shield his eyes. "Hit the dimmer. Should be the second button on your left, right next to the starshield controls."

Hellboy looked underneath his arm at the controls and tried to reach it, but the ship began to thrum louder and he quickly grabbed the thruster again. Sticking his tongue between his teeth, he wondered how to go about this when he decided to do a very unorthodox thing.
Extending his tail as far as he could, it slinked up and reached the controls, and he pressed the tip firmly upon the button. The starshield around them flickered and appeared to dim, but nothing more dramatic happened.

"That's quite....intriguing...." Smoltz cleared his throat--or throats--and put the odd sight past him. He had bigger things to worry about than some prehensile red tail!
"Alright, starshield is secure and dim, we're all tuck in nice and tight, no airbags...I think we're good to go!" He said, holding a thumbs up. "Whenever you're ready, just press forward on the throttle and blast off!"
Uh-oh. Maybe he should have chosen his words a little more...carefully.

"You mean like this?" Hellboy asked, suddenly jerking the controls forwards.
With a whoosh! they sped out of that garage and careened straight into the sky at a tremendously fast speed.

"No, not like thAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!"
Before the alien could object, the agent had already pushed all their might forward and the ship easily rocketed to a dizzying 180psm. The world became a blur of streaks and smudges, Smoltz's body literally packed back into his seat thanks to the monstrous momentum.
They were going to crash at this rate! And worse! They might even attract the local law enforcement!
"Slow down! SLOW DOWN!" He shrieked, barely able to move thanks to gravity crushing him backwards. "Pull the throttle back slowly and SLOW DOWN!"

Hellboy pulled back with a vicious jerk, and they came to a shuddering, ear-screeching stop. He felt his breakfast rise up to his mouth, but he swallowed it down again forcefully.
"Whoa," the demon said in amazement, keeping the controls steady now. "I didn't expect us to go that fast."

"You think THAT'S bad, you were only going HALF the speed of light!" Smoltz squeaked, his body thrown out of whack thanks to the sudden impromptu braking. He pulled himself upwards and fixed his belt shaking all the while.
"You will get KILLED flying like that! Here! Push that lever down to engage the auto-cap and push that crank to gear two!" He instructed, pointing to both in sequence. "At least a 50psm you won't get a ticket!"

Hellboy blinked and looked down at the controls and settings. "Ohhhhh," he said in understanding. He fiddled with the controls a bit, pushing the crank to gear two and pulling down the other lever, then steadied the controls and glided along at a steady pace.

"Wheeeeeeeeeew....." Smoltz let out a breath of relief and just slumped in his chair. "Just...just cruise around....I think I need a moment to bring myself up to 180psm..."

"Sure thing," the demon said, turning--slowly--to the left. The ship obliged, drawing a smooth arc in the air, responding almost immediately to his touch. Hey, this isn't so bad, he thought, pleased as he drifted through the sky. Fluffy white clouds drifted past them too fast for the eye to see.

"Urgh, I think I lost my stomach back there...." Smoltz held down his tea and tried his best to concentrate. "How are we doing..." He asked with a paler shade of teal upon his cheeks.
"Are we all good--hurgh!--for space flight..."

"Looks like it," Hellboy said cheerfully, doing another smooth, fluid turn in the air. "I've kinda got the hang of these controls now, at least."
