Oh Cosmos...
"Just...Just hit that lever over there to engage the main boosters and easily make an incline upwards and try not to--splurgh!--attract unwanted legal attention." The sickly alien mumbled, squeezing his legs together tightly.

"Gotcha," the demon said, flipping the lever. An immediate whirr of power came to life, filling his ears with the sound. He carefully eased the thrusters upwards, and they began to climb. Higher and higher and higher until the air began to visibly thin and grow darker; the vastness of space looming above.

"Steady, steady...." Smoltz warned. "Once you reach space, the planet's gravity will want to bring you back down. When you feel a tug, kick off the auto-cap and manually control the power so you can reach escape velocity."
Cosmos forbid they collide into a Star Command cruiser....

With a curt nod, Hellboy steadied the thrusters and all the while they continued to climb. It was kind of exhilarating and terrifying at the same time. He could barely survive a fall from a plane, unless something broke his fall. Imagine falling from this height. He shivered just thinking about it.
No, wait... he was shivering on a whole. Strange... he didn't feel cold... no, wait, the space-craft was trembling slightly. Hoping it wasn't some sort of malfunction, he gently eased the thrusters a bit higher--
And felt a sudden jerk backward.
Blinking in confusion, he realized a few seconds after the initial panic subsided that it was probably the planet's gravity trying to drag them back. He kicked off the auto-cap, then felt the strange sensation of being suspended in mid-air, then slowly falling backward. He jerked the thrusters forwards, and the falling sensation stopped. Instead, with a sudden lurch, the tiny space-craft suddenly zoomed forwards and broke free from the gravitational pull of the planet.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Despite being a known coward, Smoltz actually gave in and showed his daring side, whooping with excitement as the ship lurched and roared ever higher; the air becoming thinner and thinner and their weight becoming less and less.
He could see the black void of space before them and the winking of millions of stars, smiles creeping upon both his mouths as he checked to make sure the oxygen tanks were still fully loaded.
"Great! Congratulations!" The alien smirked. "You managed to get us into space and NOT kill us!"

"Gee, thanks. I guess." Hellboy wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment or not. "So now what? We're in space, the final frontier. What do I have to learn now?"

"Well, for starters....you can do THIS!"
Smoltz reached over and yanked on a lever sharply, the ship rolling on its sides in a dangerous, yet beautiful, tumble.
"Do a barrel roll!"

"Geeze!" Hellboy hissed, gripping his seat agitatedly, his tail stiffening much like a cat's would puff up when it felt threatened. "Would you warn me the next time you try to pull a stunt like that!?"

"What? It's just a barrel roll." Smoltz grinned with a slight chuckle. He relinquished the controls back to the agent and just crossed his arms smuggly as the ship began to drift back down to a level plane.
"As you can see, most ships are installed with a balancer; you know, something that brings them onto a level medium. It comes in handy when you do barrel rolls and the like." He explained with a gesture. "Anyway, play around with the controls and make sure to check your radar. You don't want to hit anyone out here; especially a star cruiser...."

Hellboy drew an even breath, firmly gripping the controls again. His eyes drifted down to the radar. Nothing seemed to be on it, so far. Just small blips too far away to be of any importance. he eased the thrusters forwards and found that he needed to apply more strength than before. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they were in space now.
And now... now, he'd try the barrel roll.
He jerked on the same lever sharply, and the ship spun crazily for several heart-clenching seconds, before finally easing back upright again. "Hey, this isn't half-bad," he smirked.

"It's actually quite fun, isn't it." The double-mouthed alien agreed, relaxing a bit now that the agent actually had a control on things. "I'm sure Zurg has a better ship down the line for you, though. You know, one with more bells and whistles; probably illegal tritium missiles to boot, just for kicks." He said with a stifled yawn from his lower jaw.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be nice. Oh what money and power can buy."

Hellboy took this all in with a furrowed brow. "Y'know, just 'cause I can do a loop in space doesn't mean I'm suddenly an expert flier. How else can I learn all of these technical details, and quickly?"

"Technical details?" Smoltz stretched a bit, heard a few bones pop, and sighed back into place. "Well, for starters, real pilots take several months to years in training for this kind of thing. Fortunately for you, you have me and since Zurg thinks I still hold value in his laser-searing eyes, I might as well keep being useful." He remarked, grunting indignantly at that last part.
"What would you like to learn? I'm at your disposal, literally."

"Well, drifting through space like this is all fine and dandy, but obviously I need to learn about the practical stuff. Like going into hyper-speed and such," the demon replied. "Not to mention, I should learn about all the basic weaponry, right?"

"Hyperspeed, he says...." Smoltz blew out a puff of air, the hair before his eyes fanning upwards and the alien shook his head. "Hyperspeed is pure science fiction. We go by lightspeed here, since traveling at the speed of light is pretty darn fast." He corrected.
"Besides, I wouldn't advise going into lightspeed without first plotting a destination into the nav-computer. If you make the jump without a preordained coordinate, you might just end up in a star or black hole....and I don't think my life insurance covers that." Smoltz shivered. "And weapons? This is my ship we're talking about here! No weapons, pure and simple."
